The As ‘Circles’ project.

In this work I wanted to represent the metaphorical meaning of the word circle in an obvious way. I felt that simple things like mushroom have lots of elements of detail that I wanted to explore in my project. Through this project I worked with a range of media types and focused on the skill of using the ones that I was already familiar with.
I feel that my final piece for this project was largely influenced from the amount of time I allowed myself to familiarize with the way the mushrooms were composed and formed. To do this I did a collection of drawings from observation. I then adapted the drawing I had already created by changing the composition or the media type that I had been using.
I decided that my final drawing should be based on a charcoal sketch that I had previously drawn. I wanted to have an abstract element to the work, so I felt that working from a drawing would make sure I didn’t spend too much time focusing on the detail. I looked at Gerarde Richter’s pallet knife paintings I felt that a painting like that would complement the composition of the drawing.
